Multipath transport protocols (MPTCP and CMT-SCTP)
The bonding of multiple internet access links can increase performance as well as reliability. In the TMC-IPv6 project the combination of terrestrial and geostationary satellite links, which suffer from large propagation delay, is of special interest. At the transport layer there are two multipath approaches: Multipath TCP (MPTCP, RFC 6824) and Concurrent Multipath Transfer SCTP (CMT-SCTP). In this work, MPTCP and CMT-SCTP shall be compared with respect to the characteristics of satellite links. Besides a conceptual comparison, network simulations as well as testbed setups may be used for performance evaluations.
