Optimizing Apache Spark for Data Analytics at Audi

New functions and features in the automotive domain result in a rapid increase of generated data. Especially during development it is important to be able to evaluate the measurements of sensors and control units effectively. To supersede outdated administration Audi works on a project called Share42morrow. This project should provide a central plattform for sharing, administrating and analyzing data over many different departments. For data utilization the Apache Spark Framework is used. Apache Spark realizes a simple development model for parallel applications. However it also involves the danger of impractical handling regarding configuration, data deposition and application development. Therefore, this work presents a comprehensive view on possible optimizations for Apache Spark applications. A special focus is on the optimization regarding the given specifications and restrictions of the cluster. In addtion three implementations for enhancing the cluster utilization are depicted. Those or similar steps are highly recommended for improving the performance of the cluster as well as conserving resources.   Ort: Raum 04.137, Martensstr. 3, Erlangen

Betrachtungen der Physikalischen Schicht eines Low Power-Funkprotokolls

Untertitel: Evaluation der Verwendbarkeit von RTLSDR und BladeRF zum Empfang von LoRa, sowie der Reichweite

Effiziente und wirtschaftliche Kommunikationswege sind für das Internet der Dinge von grundlegender Bedeutung. Für die drahtlose Datenübertragung über mehrere Kilometer konkurrieren verschiedene Technologien, eine vielversprechende davon ist LoRa mit dem Netzwerkprotokoll LoRaWAN. Es eignet sich insbesondere für Anwendungen, bei welchen der Stromverbrauch der IoT-Geräten minimiert werden soll. Für die Erweiterung der Übung zur Lehrveranstaltung Advanced Networking wurden Methoden zum Empfangen, Demodulieren und Dekodieren von LoRa-Nachrichten mit günstiger Hardware evaluiert. Ein Lösungsweg wurde herausgearbeitet und erfolgreich getestet. Eine Evaluation der Reichweite der LoRa-Technologie auf dem Campus der Technischen Fakultät und in dessen Umgebung im Bezug auf ein Gateway im Informatik-Hochhaus rundet die Arbeit ab. Development and Evaluation of Adaptive Methods for Fault Detection in Building Operation

In order to ensure fault-free and energy-efficient building operation, it is necessary to acquire and analyze relevant time series data, such as system temperatures, control signals or weather data. For a largely automated analysis of these data with regard to suboptimal operating states / errors, different methods can be used. Promising methods are common regression and classification methods, such as linear regression, support vector machines, decision trees, or naive Bayes classifiers. A prerequisite for the functioning of these and similar methods is the existence of a training data set which covers as far as possible (nominal and faulty) system states. Since this requirement is not fulfilled in practice in most cases, one can pass on to adjust the training data set gradually during operation. Ort: Raum 04.137, Martensstr. 3, Erlangen
